Anyone else check this out yet? Looks to have a lot of potential. It's more of an action based mmorpg, rewarding highly skilled game play.

I played the beta weekend this weekend. Was a little bit different than the standard MMO. A little bit more dynamic combat system. Hope to try it out again soon. But Guild Wars 2 has no very much psyched up.

I just started looking into it recently, and it does look quite interesting. GW2 still has the majority of my attention right now, though.

I'd never even heard of it. A couple videos make it look like the game that FF14 should have been, although I admit to only glancing through a few.

What's the skinny on it?

Prepare to tl;dr :

It has more of an action based combat system. Movement is a huge deal meaning skillful, thought out actions in combat makes all the difference. There are VERY few lock-on abilities and rather than dice rolls to determine a hit or miss, the game uses collision detection and the like.

Ranged classes play a bit like a 3rd person shooter. Healers can't just click a portrait to heal people, but instead have to place heals strategically to ensure several people are affected. Much like other mmos melee dps has to move around as part of their job discription, but it's to the Nth degree. Tanks have to work more at keeping hoards of mobs clustered and positioning big mobs as there seem to be very few stand still and avoid the fire types of fights.

BAM(Big Ass Monster) and Boss fights seem much more active from all I can tell. The mobs move around more than any mmo I've ever seen or played providing another layer of complexity to fights where you have to kinda figure it out on the fly. Mobs do have "tells" for their abilities like in other mmos though. Combat also uses a combo system of sort in the same vein as AoC.

The equipment is very elaborate, stylized and varies on the race/sex equiping it. There are something like 8 races including Galka looking dudes, kitty/dog/bunny/badger/panda people and pedo girls along with several other more typical humanoid races.

This is generally how I feel about it, also.

I saw that it's supposedly open to everyone starting today, but it keeps giving me the pop up showing the scheduled dates.

I loved my experience in the beta. This game is really a lot of fun and very different from any mmo I've played.
