He was subbed out for the second game and I don't think he's seen any play time since. I doubt that he lost his club job though, unless he happens to play for an English club, in which case he might be fucked.

Played my first game in about three months yesterday. Had an awesome time as always, although I managed to sprain my finger pretty badly while I was playing goalie in the second half.

Was enjoying some time at the beach. Didn't miss a game, though.

Good to see you are supporting the local club! Although it's a weird place to watch soccer, they could have done a lot worse than Steinbrener Field.

Speaking of local, my Revs beat another Mexican team on Tuesday, bringing their record to 6-0-1 against teams from the Mexican first division.

USA v. Brazil in a friendly tonight at 8:00 est.

And they've added fucking Jozy Altidore to the roster once again, although at least he won't be playing tonight.

I have a dream of the USA Men's National Team one day being able to field a respectable defense, although I see no sign of it happening before the coming World Cup. Certainly not based on last night's performance at least.

Nope. Our defense was horrid. Our set pieces and Herculez Gomez were a nice surprise, but we have no chance until we get a couple defenders that don't fall asleep constantly. I thought we did well in every other phase though really.

Our right defender, Steve Cherundolo, actually seemed like he had a clue, unfortunately he was getting no help from anyone else and was constantly being doubled up on by the Brazilian offense. Bradly was the only reason that Brazil couldn't just drive straight down the middle of the field.

Oguchi Onyewu was especially useless.

Our defenders are also old, with 3 of the 4 being in their 30's, which accounts at least in part of the inability to match the Brazilian's speed.

Here's a quick rundown of how this round of qualifying matches for World Cup 2014 works for those who aren't familiar with the qualification process.

Our region for world cup qualifications is made up of North America, Central America, and Caribbean teams (CONCACAF). In total there are 25 teams in our region.

The USA team wasn't required to participate in the first two rounds of qualifiers, due to being ranked in the top 6 for our region (we are the highest ranked team).

For round 3, the remaining teams are broken into three groups, based on their rankings and the results from the first two rounds. Each groups has two teams ranked within the top 6 and two teams that survived the first two elimination rounds.

We are in Group A, made up of:
USA (Ranked 1st)
Jamaica (Ranked 4th)
Guatemala (Ranked 11th)
Antigua and Barbuda (Ranked 12th)

Each team plays the others once, and the two teams with the best record, from each group, go on to the final qualification round, which will start on February 6th, 2013.

The 3rd round kicks off this Friday, with the U.S. National Soccer Team v. Antigua & Barbuda match in Tampa, FL

Wow, now I really wish I had watched it (couldn't get the stream to play at work). Definitely sounds fucked up.

If you guys cared less about the health of your people and more about gold medals, then maybe you could afford to buy the refs. Of course we probably used borrowed Chinese money.
