My poor joke failed. 'Hatte will pay.

I was going with Vanguard. But I still haven't turned in all of my stuff, so I don't have a portfolio set up yet.

I don't trust online anything, especially money managers. If you go with an established company like Schwab or something that offers it, that might be alright. I don't even make purchases online.

ING: 4.5%...bs. I think it's just something to catch your eye, and once your caught, it's actually up to 4.5%

Capital One: they are actually Money Market Funds. High Yield is 5%, Business is 4.5%.

HSBC: Online savings seem to be 5.05%, whereas standard is only .25%. There were no rates listed for a high interest savings account, so I would like to know exactly where they are getting that yield, because it doesn't jive with the rest of their rates. Even their hardcore investor accounts don't break 4.5%, and that's for 250k and above. CD's weigh in at 5.25%, which is a lot more than the MMF's they offer. Something isn't right here.

The current national average for high interest savings is 3.92%.

My next thing to get set up is a Roth IRA.

Let me know how that works out for you, I've been interested in doing that for some time.

I submitted my app. to get one started through Bank of America. I use them for one of my other accounts and have always been really happy with their online banking options and setup.

From the TOS:
Rate Information - The Interest Rate on your account is 4.4098% with an APY of 4.50% Your Interest Rate and APY may change. At our discretion we may change the Interest Rate for your account at any time.

It is 4.5% but can change. It is not up to 4.5% for example 1% for < $5000; 2% for 5k-25k etc.

There are no minimum deposit amounts required.

They have changed their rate in the past and it gets advertised on the website.

My Roth IRA is through Franklin Templeton. I am not sure which fund it is put it has not made a high APR.

I am still considering buying AMD stock. It is low currently < $13/share.

I've always figured that beer/scotch companies might be a good investment. Figure that people will probably only drink more as the economy gets worse. I've never actually taken the time to do any research to back that theory up though.

That's what I was thinking, the rate is posted at 4 and a half, but when they say they will change it at their discretion, then they probably will, often. If it were a locked in rate, I'd say it is impressive, but it sounds like a mutual fund more than a savings account. Most likely it is similar to a company provided 401k deal, they reexamine their total investment gains and losses at the end of every fiscal year and adjust your percentage accordingly.

Mad Money recommended the England-based liquor company Diageo.

"your percentage accordingly"

They do not adjust each peron's account. If the APR goes down it goes down for everyone. There rate has only increased over the past about two years. It has not gone down.

All the online bank are savings accounts like a traditional account.
How much do you think all these bank buildings cost? I mean Bank of America has like 5 offices in the town I live with full staffs at each. That is very expensive.
If you are an internet bank with only 1 office and little overhead you can give much better rates.

That's what I meant. I should have been more clear. In terms of savings, that is. If we are talking about investing, however, rates are personalized based on what you put your money into.

Overhead will not affect percentages, that's based on the market. The charges for their services is where they get the money for their expenses, and their profits are mostly through investment gains and the money they make off of your account. And then there's government grants.

Was really hoping that Tesla's price would drop off further after Goldman Sachs lowered their price estimate, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be happening. Probably going to just buy it at around the $120 price, before Tesla announces their 2nd quarter profits on Monday.

Of course, the fact that other estimates are putting the stock's actuall value at $200 - $300 doesn't help lower it either.
