Not really sure where to post this thread. Here's the situation: I have a standard USB to Ethernet crossover adapter. I would like to know if there is a way to get my PS2 online without having to shell out for their overpriced adapter, I want to use this one instead. I mean, all I have to do is plug the USB into the PS2, then the Ether into my computer port, . After much research, I feel I'm on the cusp of discovery, but I am becoming bored quickly and don't think my attention span will get me that extra 10 yards. I know how to hack it so you can get online through AOL with a couple of NICs and a crossover cable, but I don't use AOHell. I'm wondering if it really is as simple as pinholing my ports, or if I have to install software onto the console itself(which is most likely the case, at which point I would obtain said software...through any means necessary except good). I'd also have to figure out which ports to forward in the case of teh former.

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Thoughtless, suggestionless, idealess bastards. Anyway, I got a hold of a New Look PS2 and it has ethernet built in. Still having the connectivity problem. It's hardlined into my PC, so I shouldn't need to pinhole. I'm wondering now if it has to do with the fact I'm using a wireless connection. The official sites have no actual, applicable advice aside from what I've already done.

DHCP is DHCP. It shouldn't care about the wireless. Check your router's settings and make sure you have enough IP addresses open to accomodate one more. I've accidentally blocked myself before by having 4 IP addresses available but five machines plugged in. It's be an easy fix, anyway.

Yes, but wireless is far more sensitive. For one thing, sometimes it can have the nasty habit of trying to connect to someone else's hotspot once in a while. Easy enough to fix and prevent. For another, I've found that I need to pinhole my ports more often than not for certain things. With a hardwire config, this is almost never necessary since it has a direct hardware route to your NIC instead of an indirect software one.
