Appearantly there is plans to make a DC comics themed MMO with Jim Lee as "Executive Creative Director." Penny arcade sums up my feelings on this pretty well with this strip and Tycho's rant.

As a big fan of DC comics (keep the DC comics bashing to another forum please) I am of course excited about the prospect of a DC comics MMO. This could engage me into a super hero game in ways that City of Heroes could not. I would dare say that I might be almost as excited about this possibility as Mojobacca was about Star Wars Galaxies.

And therein lies the big problem. Like SWG, this game is being made by Sony Online Entertainment. The very same company that managed to royally screw up the Star Wars online game. Screw it up so bad that even the most diehard fans I've ever met could no longer stand to play the game.

Aside from the fact that SoE is workign on this, my other biggest worry is how they'll justify all the new heroes and potentially villians within the set framework of the DC comics. How large will the world be? Will there be a lot of interaction with extablished DC icons (there better be)? My guess is that they'll probably set the game within some kind of either alternate earth (bad idea, continuity-wise) or within an Elseworlds setting (like maybe Kingdom Come? That would rock).

In any event, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

It's the URL of the current comic once it gets archived. Just go to the main site and view the latest comic until the archive is updated there.

I'm coming to believe that major franchises are just generally being used as an excuse to produce a shoddy game.

I'd rather pick up something that becomes popular on it's own merit.

PA updated yesterday's post since Glistam posted the link here, and I think it's worth revisiting to read the rest.

Just an update on the 1,200 donuts situation. We were able to give all the donuts away. We gave some to the other businesses here in our office building. We also sent a few hundred over to the Seattle Children’s hospital for the staff there. Then we let our PAX enforcers come by and dig in.

A few people have made the comment to me that it was nice of SOE to send us one donut for every subscriber they have. The other funny remark I heard was that this is the best product SOE has ever shipped. You guys are mean.

Didn't you feel the disturbance in the force when this died? It was like a million gamers crying out only to be silenced....
