That occurred after the landing, not during. _________________ Core meltdown (commonly known as a meltdown) is an accident scenario in nuclear reactors, and is one of the possible modes of failure for light water reactors, during which the reactor pile turns into a pile of reactor.

And? I'm fairly certain that the same people who found the that point exciting, also found everything leading up to it exciting. _________________ The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. - Albert Einstein

I found the whole thing exciting. I'm not sure if you're trolling, arguing semantics, or you actually have a point to make. _________________ "What cheers me up? Um... Yes, yes, no.
You fell to Poe's Law. In your defense by definition, it's impossible to tell if I was actually trolling without some indication such as a smiley or something. _________________ Core meltdown (commonly known as a meltdown) is an accident scenario in nuclear reactors, and is one of the possible modes of failure for light water reactors, during which the reactor pile turns into a pile of reactor.

Shit. You are correct. Not sure what I was thinking it was. I really do not care about a new rover. They already did that.
Why not send a rover to venus? Or one of Jupiter's moons?
Or just send some actual people to mars! _________________ "Fuckin' Amesome" --- Joe Flacco

There's a number of things that make this different. The fact that Curiosity is so much larger than the previous two rovers and is carrying a much more expansive array of tools. The previous two where little more than roving cameras while Curiosity will be able to take soil samples and analyze them. The sky crane landing system they developed allows them to be much more precise in where the rover can actually be deployed.
It's not like the other planets are being ignored. But the surface conditions on Mars are much more conducive to life than what presently exists on Venus. It's the most logical place to look if you are wanting to find evidence of life elsewhere in our solar system. The surface of Venus is something like 500 degrees celsius and nearly every probe we have sent there has been crushed by the pressure. I think the last couple were designed to withstand about 150 BAR if I remember correctly and that seemed sufficient, but looking for evidence of life in a planet that has no internal dynamo and therefor no protection from solar radiation, extremely hostile temperature and pressure, as well as runaway greenhouse effect and clouds of sulfuric acid doesn't seem like the best place to start the search. |

Congratulations! You've successfully demonstrated why you don't work for NASA. _________________ "What cheers me up? Um... I suppose mainly gloating over the misfortunes of other people. I can see sending something to Callisto or one of the other moons being feasible at some point in the future. Jupiter's occlusion would likely prevent us from getting alot of the data back though. Jupiter itself wouldn't be a likely target though. Anyplace where the pressure is so high that Hydrogen is found in it's solid metallic form is going to pose one hell of an engineering challenge. |

Holy crap! Just in case you weren't sure if Conservapedia is the most biased piece of trash on the internet and run/edited by complete idiots: http://conservapedia.com/E=mc%C2%B2
Here's the damn proof for E=mc^2 (done in a particularly entertaining and well explained way): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW7DW9NIO9M

Fortunately (yes, I do mean fortunately), my work's firewall blocks Conservapedia. _________________ Core meltdown (commonly known as a meltdown) is an accident scenario in nuclear reactors, and is one of the possible modes of failure for light water reactors, during which the reactor pile turns into a pile of reactor.
