Okaaaay, I guess I'm not getting it tonight. I went to Best Buy - rows upon rows of preorder boxes, not one actual unit. Those tards! The two EB's near me have next to nothing either since being bought out by Gamespot.

*forgot to mention, I picked up PSU, FFXII and Dark Messiah instead.

I'd grab it but I don't think my laptop would run it well and I'm going to be busy with PSU for a while.

I picked up a copy last night, installed, and updated. The update took a while, but that might just be because it was launch night.

So far it just looks about like you'd expect it to. It's like, "More Neverwinter, More Nights" or something. I haven't gotten far enough in to see how I feel about it really. I'm mostly just working through the tutorial.

The character creation was expanded. There are now a lot of prestige classes, and I think sub-races. None of that stuff really excites me that much. They also added crafting skills and all together there seemed like a lot more skills/feats.

The storyline is much improved. It's exactly what you'd want from a sequel, really... Same feel, expanded everything else.

That being said, I have to spend some time with it before I have a solid opinion. I'm glad I paid my whole preorder before the house, wedding, lawyers, et al drained my fundage.

My one minor gripe is that I started with everything turned up to the max and the performance kind of sucks. You'll recall from another thread I recently put together a super gaming machine that runs Oblivion on full settings with 20-30 fps outdoors, so why does this game dip to 10 at times? That's a bit disheartening.

I'll have to play with the settings some and get it running better I guess.

If you've been wearing your tin-foil hat, you'll know that there is a vast conspiracy between game developers and the vile League of Hardware, led by Video Kards Inc.

G-card or driver issues?

Who knows? Application failed to load *references a memory hex*. Apparently a LOT of people are having very serious issues with this game, and Atari is being extremely uncooperative. Then again, maybe they're spending all their time trying to fix it instead of all their time on the boards telling people they're fixing it. Still, I didn't pay $50+ to beta test.

It doesn't support my video card. It's a Radion 9250 with 256 mb of video memory and supports the shading crap it says it doesn't.

I'm a little disappointed.

Uh-oh. That sounds like the calm before the stormy geek backlash.

edit:

Of course, I can't hear it over the video cards:

Reinstalled last night and forwent autopatching it. Seems to work fine now. I'm going to patch it again tonight and see if that was the problem.

I patched it last night and still no problems. It could have been one of two things: the fact that I didn't install NETsomething or other, or that I fubared the pathing. Anyway, my Warlock is badass.

So what is the word on this game. I'm trying to decide if I want to download it or do homework.

By download it do you mean by buying it off of a site, or through "other" means?

I've noticed on both Oblivion, and NWN that there were issues patching the "Direct 2 Drive" version. If you're planning on using that I'd recommend getting your hands on a retail copy if possible.

I liked it, but I've been sort of busy lately and didn't really have time to sink my teeth in to it.

Direct2Drive

I downloaded Sim's Railroads off of there and found out that D2D has their own version of the patches that you have to download.

I have the Direct to drive version. The problems with updating only happend for the first patch which was the first day it was released.
Since then it has been fine. Also NWN uses its ingame update system, so you don't need any special patches from D2D.

I like the Warlock class and all, but for such a combat intensive game they could have included more of the new frontline classes. Warmage, Favored Soul, etc. Warlock is a support unit, so it's difficult getting through solo(you can't get by every combat, eventually everyone has to fight certain things). Ok, so I really just want to be a Warmage. Other than that, no complaints as yet.
