Since then it has been fine. Also NWN uses its ingame update system, so you don't need any special patches from D2D.

Cool. I hadn't played in a while, and just the fact that there were some issues had me worried. If it's all resolved then no harm no foul. It was at least enough for me to point out.

I picked this up a couple of days ago and I have found something about it so deplorable that I'm very tempted to remove the game from my drive... Camera Control.

Maybe there is something I'm missing, but all the camera control options I have seen don't help for shit. Middlebutton camera control has got to go! Swap it with the RMB functions and I think it'd be a good start. Then have it follow the selected character keeping it in the middle of the screen. Then it'd be golden!

They did all of that a few weeks ago right before the release of MotB. You must not have updated before playing. I don't have a problem with middle button control, my mouse has no middle button. Just the wheel, which I only use for zooming. I actually liked the original scheme immensely, but now that I'm used to the new controls, I'm starting to like them too.

I updated before loading it up for the first time.

I did find a link to a Tech Support page that supposedly outlines a way to make configuration changes so that camera control is hugely more managable.

After I get off of nights, I'll have to give it a whirl.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, then. Everything you mentioned is the standard control set. You press the asterisk key to cycle through the four different camera sets, and the two main ones(strategy and exploration) are easy as pie. I think maybe you are talking about Strategy Mode, which is the first one on by default. It is simply isometric top down, and the camera can pan a short distance around. It is intended for combat only, but I never use it. All you have to do is switch to Exploration Mode and the camera follows the selected character in the direction they are travelling, and allows you to rotate it with the arrow keys. You can have the camera right behind the character or all the way out and above. The camera also has a good deal of customization on the Camera tab in the settings menu.

Did anyone know that they are coming out with two more expansions for this? MoW and SoZ

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go pick up the "gold" edition today when I get off work. I've been wanting to play a D&D game for a while now and since I'm not playing any MMOs at the moment I can probably find at least a few minutes in my schedule to play this.

edit: Apparently with the SoZ expansion they will add the ability to create an entire party at the beginning (3 other characters) instead of just your main character.

edit 2: Just called all 4 of the game stores on my way home and none of them have NWN2 or the gold edition in stock. Guess I'll be downloading it when I get home.

edit 3: Turned out Best Buy had it. It's installing now.

So I've got this magic silver "item" that I need to hide. Where could I possibly put it? I know, in the middle of the swamp surrounded by lizard creatures, that makes perfect sense!

That being said, so far the game seems very cool and I'm having a ton of fun playing it (which explains why it was an hour and 1/2 later than I thought when I finally looked at a clock last night). I'm playing as a half-elf Druid.

If anyone's interested in getting together online this weekend and playing either one of the official story lines or a custom build let me know.

edit: This sounds like it might be a good time: The Isle of Ash: Chapter 1

edit 2: In other news, apparently the SoZ expansion shipped today. Here's a review: Link

edit 3: This could also be fun. It's a conversion of a PnP written by Gary Gygax back in 1979: Link

I'm on playing some multiplayer if anyone's interested.

edit: When I get back from the store I'm going to be checking out this module: http://www.necrosisonline.com

Here's its description

Quote:
Nobody knows how the nightmare started...

Nobody knows if it'll ever end...

The only choice anyone has is to survive.

Necrosis came about when I was sitting and watching a bunch of horror films in a row. Thinking to myself "I'd love to RP in a world where it's just doing your best to survive." So, then I turned to my homies, like Ash, Delexos, and Fury and said, "Let's do an apocalyptic survival setting."

I'm telling you now, these are some good designers we have working on this and everybody is excited to get it ready for the public.

Essentially Necrosis is the life of people living in a world that is not infested with undead, not plagued with undead, but overrun and fighting for life with undead. You are a survivor, and as long as you keep that title, you will continue to live.

This setting is not for the faint hearted. It's going to be harsh as you fight to find food. It'll be rough as you watch you friends die and wonder if you should go back to try to save them. It'll make you wonder if there's no end in sight as you scavenge ruins of old cities trying to find whatever you can that might be useful to you later, even making weapons out of chunks of metal tied to sticks. And, since it's Forgotten Realms, you might get to see if that colony of Orcs if faring better than your run down, walled in, keep.

If you like to sit around campfires and chat all day for RP before you logout, this server is not for you.
If you like to grind in circles, telling yourself that next level is right around the corner, this server is not for you.
If you like utopian worlds, where the conflict only exists as long as your DM is on, this world is not for you.
If you think level 20 is the only way to get things done, and that lower levels shouldn't matter, this world is not for you (Good luck getting to 20 by the way )

We have tons of custom systems going into this. For instance, being out in the world in areas too long will eventually bring the hordes of undead, and no one can survive them. So players will have to be in and out of areas fast. System for scrounging materials that could save your life. Food and gathering systems, even planting. Players will find themselves always finding something to do with their time. And that's between DMs picking on you. The idea of this world is constantly active, those who aren't will die. *Waves goodbye*

And yes, there will still be dungeons to crawl It is, after all DUNGEONS and dragons. Heheh.

Wow, I can't believe none of you guys are interested in playing a D&D meets zombie apocalypse module.

So I hadn't bought this yet, but I was hanging out with my brother and his fiance last weekend and he has it. I really didn't get much past the tutorial, but from what I've played, I'll probably be getting a copy soon. It took me awhile to figure out all the camera controls and the different switchable camera modes, but once I got past that I was really enjoying myself. I might go with a caster this time. I played through NWN as a rogue, then as a monk.
They did make pickpocket into a skill that's actually worth having now. NWN it was pointless, so I might go rogue again as well.

Has anyone else noticed that the AI for the sorceres is a bit retarded? I gave mine a melee weapon to hold onto and, instead of hanging back and just casting spells, the idiot runs to the front of battle just about every time. I fixed the issue by giving her a crossbow but it still seems like there should be something I can do to prevent her from trying to be a tank.

This is also one more reason I want to get the new expansion, since it is suppose to improve the overall AI.

Not sure if anyone else is still playing this but lately I've been playing the custom module Baldur's Gate - The Sword Coast Chronicles a lot. There are usually about 20 - 40 players online and the GMs seem to do a really good job of updating the game world.

Anyways, just thought I would mention it in case anyone else happens to have a character there.

Finally picked up a copy of this for myself. I think I might have to grab the expansions though. The AI right now is kind of pissing me off. My character doesn't seem to have any kind of auto attack feature. If I wanted to click each enemy individually I'd start playing Diablo again.

You shouldn't have to click every time you want to hit, only for target selection.

Once he's attacking he's okay, but some times if I don't tell him to attack something he'll just sit there and let the guys beat on him

Hmmm....it's been too long since I played. I can't remember if that's supposed to happen or not. I seem to remember that combat behaviors only take effect if you aren't in direct control. Otherwise, you have to command every action. Make good use of that spacebar, I guess.

Yeah, Crush is right, if you are in control you have to tell him to attack. If you aren't in control of the character, they should attack on their own (unless you have turned on puppet mode)

Since I'm currently laid off and have a lot of free time on my hands, I've been considering trying to create my own NWN2 Mod with a BEB theme.
