They seem to have a slight misconception... That Ranged attacks are the only type that deal Piercing damage. Daggers and Polearms do too...
Also, they didn't mention that most flying or bird-type mobs are weak to piercing, not just flies.
Another thing is they seem to misunderstand how exp works in PTs... "Please keep parties within 1-2 levels or there may be EXP loss", to paraphrase. That's kind of perpetrating the myth that it's the level gap that determines exp, not the highest level in the PT.

Other than that though, the information itself is very handy ^^

here is how large the gap can be. Corbun and I were fighting Tough mobs with me as a 53 BLM and himas a 46 RDM with no reduction in exp.

I think the main problem with a big gap in a party fighting ITs is that something that's IT to the highest level may be just too IT for the lowest level to hit effectively, which slows down the kills, which slows down EXP. I don't see that there's a problem with the number of points you get per kill.

If you are below the highest level in the PT, there is a % reduced for each level below the highest you are. It's not too large, and only gets smaller the higher levels get, but it is there and it is real.
The main problem is that, yes, if you're too low level, you're going to miss, hit for low damage, get resists, etc.

I believe the % reduction is actually on the bonus xp recieved for chains and not for the actual base xp of the mob. Also, I must say that this is probablt the most misconstrued thing in ffxi and a big reason why mnay people quit. Really, if the mobs are IT to the highest lvled charater in the pt then the xp will be fine for everyone, end of story. Obviously how fast you can kill/how much you can chain is based on how effective everyone in the pt is and if someone is to low lvled then they will slow down the pt, but thats not to say that the xp is hurt because of a huge lvl gap and the only preson feeling the gap is the lowest person, not the highest.

I could be wrong, but I think after level 50 its your level divided by the highest level... so if you're 50 and in a pt of 55's you get 50/55ths of the xp... or 91% xp. Before level 50 I think its the same thing, except based off of tnl. So if your tnl is 6000 and someone else's is 5800, then you get 58/60ths of the xp or 97%.

You can read more detailed explanations here:
http://www.nephilim-x.com/info/exp.html

Generally a level gap isn't as bad as some people think, but it does make it more effecient to be close to the same level. I think its generally better to have an under leveled healer, then mages, then DD/Tank. Having a WHM that's 3 levels behind is generally preferable to a PLD that's 3 levels behind.

I agree with Ana. The tank shoul dbe the highest level, followed by the damage dealers, followed by the healer.

Here's a good one for Yobun since we've been discussing Obi's, staves, etc. a lot lately.

I've always used http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/journal2.html?user=313276&mid=1099606680697846812 .

Same information as anywhere else, but color coded and (for me) easier to read.

A new campsite link, very helpful. It's entirely in JP, but easy enough to understand if you don't read Japanese (since mob names are in English). Just find the drop down menu on the main page, then select the highest level in your party and click the submit button.
