I loved the ending. I thought I was going to end up being disapointed in this series over all with the direction of a few of the middle/later eps, but the ending made it all ok. I'm not generally a fan of when EVERYONE dies, but it was pulled off well in this series so I enjoyed it. Also, Light and Ryuk are two of the coolest characters ever...especially Ryuk.

Light kind of bothered me some. For someone supposed to be so intelligent he made alot of mistakes just so the plot could move along. Other than that I liked the series.

The movie ending is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy+1 better than the anime/manga's ending.

Now I simply must see the movies. I just finished the anime, and although I am upset with the conclusion, I still feel it ended the way it should have, the way I expected it would. It was a tale told from the perspective of the villain, but otherwise was a classic struggle between good and evil. It couldn't have ended any other way, especially given that control freaks tend to break down into little bitches when they lose control. But I would love to see a different ending, this one bummed me out to no end.

Definitely watch them, you won't be disappointed.

More, and total, spoilers:

I loved the ending.

So did I. But I was still upset. I wanted Light to win. I wanted him to kill every one of them and rule the world in total triumph. A lot of people were upset that he went out like a bitch, but they're kind of missing the point - Light started out good, and since absolute power corrupts absolutely, eventually he became more concerned with control and prideful in his own deviousness and intelligence that he lost all sense of his original goal. It was still there, but it became a backdrop, a motivator for his rise to godhood. He became a megalomaniac. And megalomaniacs break down and become pathetic and\or violent when they lose control. He behaved exactly as I thought he would. Despite my wishes that the villain wins the day, it was a fitting end.

Light never actually made any mistakes, his final plan really was perfect. The fault lies with Mikami. Because of his normally utterly predictable and dependable nature, Light had no way of expecting him to screw up like he did. He was brought down because of Mikami's lack of faith in his God. Near and the rest would have been defeated if Mikami hadn't broken routine, very noticeable for him, and led them to the real notebook. As for all of the earlier mistakes, he had been ruling the world for five years and had no idea L had successors. He was overconfident and didn't know his enemies capabilities, so those early snafus were to be expected. But he got his act together. Still, in the end, pride tore him down at the end of the day. If he kept his mouth shut and stayed his normal patient self, he may have been able to figure a way out.

I skimmed to the end to avoid spoilers. I just downloaded every episode. Boy, the first two episodes grab you in, don't they. The only thing that I sort of don't like is the voice for Light is the same as for Leloch from Code Geass.

Do not put forth negative opinions in regards to the almighty Johnny Yong Bosch! Heretic!

He was also Vash the Stampede in Trigun. And Kiba in Wolf's Rain. And about 300 billion others in various anime and tv shows. The man is as prolific as Crispin Freeman. Especially considering they're in nearly everything together.

Exactly! He's a great voice actor. I remember his voice.

When I watch an awesome show, I want everything about it to seem it's own. Having finished the first season of Code Geass not too long ago, I am reminded of Leloch when I hear Light. It robs the one I watch second just a bit.

But I'm off to watch episode 3, 4, and maybe more.

There's an easy fix to your problem: Watch Death Note in English, it's better.

We're talking about the English versions. Johnny Yong Bosch is an English speaking voice actor.

Yeah, I drink when I watch anime. Not usually in the reading mood.

Code Geass is better in English, in my opinion. The Japanese acting annoyed the hell out of me for some reason.

Really? I couldn't stand Code Geass in English and I didn't even make it through the first episode.

I think it sounds of equal quality to Trigun, or any other well done franchise.
