I was browsing the forums of WoW when some things I read in this post got me thinking. So I started searching and found the following rumors:

http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/15-01-2007-4502.html
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/16/blizzard-exec-hints-at-starcraft-2-world-reels/ (which also links the above)

I hope beyond hopes that this comes out. Of course, I'm sure my marriage would definately end if it does. My wife hated me playing Starcraft because I turned into Tzalik... single-minded gamer.

I've been dying for them to do this for years now. I hope this leaves rumor status.

Which is awesome. A lesser company would have just released poo-poo.

I have some pretty serious doubts that this is actually happening, but god I hope it is.

Case in point: Blood Omen 2. I was personally offended that they raped Henning's superb storyline so horribly.

But I do really hope this is true. I NEVER understood why more effort was put into Warcraft. I thought Starcraft was more deserving of attention.

As I understand it, the guy who owned a lot of the rights to Starcraft left Blizzard on bad terms and refused to give up those rights.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence. Warcraft was my first love with RTS games. I always thought Starcraft was essentially reskinning the peeps and giving them guns, a way for them to milk the franchise. I loved Starcraft and all, a lot, but it just didn't hold my attention like Warcraft did after I beat it once.

My initial thoughts on Starcraft were the same as CFS's. I almost returned it shortly after buying it. I'm so glad that never happened. While Warcraft was my first love for RTS's, I found my mistriss in Starcraft.

While I dug Warcraft and Dune, my 1st love was Warcraft II.

Starcraft was my favorite for sure, and I loved it immediately.

I do love the personality of the Warcraft II world, particularly cartoonish art and humor mixed in with my Ogres destroying your city. Fantasy done right I tell ya. I have the highest regard for Blizzard, even after the Warcraft III dissapointment.

Heroes...

Why I oughta...

I enjoyed the idea of hero units ever since I played Warlords 3(?) the one that was a RTS. I just don't like the idea of heroes being pretty much all powerful.

One thing I hope happens is that if you have multiple unit types selected, you can just hit X (variable shortcut) and use the ability if one of those units is in the grouping. Now you end up having to tab over to unit Y to use ability X. Don't know how many times I have skipped over a unit in the heat of battle and missed my opportunity to use an ability.

Back to hero units, I think they should be more akin to what Dawn of War did with commander units. Sure they are tougher than they standard unit, but they don't necessarily turn the tide on a momumentally one-sided battle.

If they could take SC and mix in some aspects of DoW and C&C (I like unit veterenship) and make the next SC game... I will divorce my wife.

I like the heroes from Warcraft III a lot but that is mostly because it allowed for DotA to be created.

Warlords and Dawn of War both did an excellent job with heroes.

Man, I miss Warlords. The original. I never tried the sequels, did they go rts or remain turn based?

I absolutely loved Warcraft 3. I love story driven games, and Arthas became my new hero. The rest of the game was sort of forgettable next to the human campaign, even though I enjoyed the whole thing. Sure, it wasn't the same kind of experience as the previous games, but I'd rather have new experiences than rehash the same one.

Warlords, back when I was in the Nav, busted into the RTS world and still had turn-based games.

Gotta love Warlords, definitely. My all time favorite turn based game would have to be Master of Magic. I still play that game for hours when I can get it to work that long.
