I don't know how I randomly surf into these on Wikipedia.org, but...

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_point_flexural_test

Enjoy, Buddy Lee.

You know, it's odd. While in the Nav, I was bored to tears by this stuff. Now, for some reason, I find it somewhat interesting.

I had never heard of anything like this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Savannah

I had thought this sort of thing was limited to military vessels.

KITTERY, Maine (AP) The cost to fix a nuclear-powered attack submarine that was severely damaged by a fire at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will come in within $50 million of the original estimate.

Kevin Kelley, spokesman for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, said Wednesday that the Navy's revised repair estimate for the USS Miami comes in plus-or-minus $50 million of the original estimate of $400 million for repairs and $50 million in ancillary costs.

The Miami was damaged in a fire May 23 while undergoing an overhaul at the Kittery, Maine, shipyard.

Twenty-four-year-old Casey James Fury, of Portsmouth, N.H., has been charged with two counts of arson for setting the May 23 fire and a second blaze outside the sub on June 16.

Repairs are expected to be completed by April 2015.

Had the weirdest thing happen to me on Friday last. I was flying back from Roswell NM to OKC, but had a 3-hour layover in Dallas TX. I'm piddling around on my iPad and getting bored. I look up and see someone familiar about to walk by me. He looks at me, sees me staring, looks away. He looks at me again, sees me still staring, frowns and looks away. He looks at me a third time and I see a lightbulb go off.

It was John Kennedy. I knew his name, but he didn't remember mine. His is a lot more distinctive, so it was easier to remember.

We shot the breeze for a while and then he had to move on to his flight. He's working for (I think he said) Camber Corporation as some sort of Engineer.

He gave me his cell number if any of y'all ex-navy guys (or gals) want it.

Wikipedia mentions both their use of heavy water reactors and that they are looking into using thorium as a fuel. Is that what you are referring to?
