Hi guys! Long time no see!

I got into the open beta, but I haven't created a character yet. I'll create my character on the Besaid server. |

I wasn't able to get anything to work on the website for this last night, perhaps tonight. I'm not optimistic though, since after looking over the system requirements I'm at the minimum for everything but the video card, which I don't even meet. Still, I'll try because I'm suddenly very excited about this game. _________________ "I don't have dreams about the Navy. The Navy killed all of my dreams." - Buddy Lee

I tried registering for a key, but got the message
Quote: | Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended. Please wait until we are ready to accept new applications and then try again. |

From what I've read, it seems they are doing them in clumps, so the temporary suspension gets lifted randomly throughout the day. |

Worlds in the open beta will be the same as the ones at release according to the website.
Quote: | - As long as the World you choose in the commercial release is the same as the World you choose in the open beta test, you will be able to transfer your character name. If you choose a different World for the commercial release, your character name will not be transferrable. For details, please refer to the beta test site. |

I got my key and it looks like the new client is actually working for me, so I'm downloading updates and such right now. I'll make a character tomorrow, on Besaid if that's where we're going. _________________ "The problem with quotes on the Internet is the validity of them." -Abraham Lincoln |

Yeah, I was going to ask how long it took you guys. I've been on "Downloading version update files. Please wait." for about 2 and half hours so far and am 2.1% complete, with an estimated time remaining of 26 hours and 37 minutes. Did it take you guys that long?
I'm also playing FFXI at the same time and its been really laggy. I didn't know if my Internet is just sucking which is hurting the download times and FFXI or if updating these files is causing FFXI to be laggy. |

If it doesn't finish, you may want to try rebooting your computer and restarting the d/l. That worked once for me in an earlier beta phase. |

I was interested in trying this out, but Square apparently has no love for Mac users. |

Have you opened up ports on your router, disabling your firewall and antivirus software?
Quote: | Open the upnp_port_Mapping.log file in your Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV Beta Version\downloads folder and look at the ports.
By forwarding port 55316, and ports 10217-10277, and turning off eset Nod:32 internet security, I reached download speeds of 1.8Mb/s and upload of 700kb/s

I started this at 2pm. It is now 1:42am and it is at 6.9%. What the fuck? I just opened the port, so I'll see if that helped. Has 25hrs. I honestly thought, with the pace it is going, that timer meant 25 days, 4 hours, 54 minutes. |
