HOLY CRAP YOU HAVE YAMATO
When did that happen? I freaking GREW UP on Star Blazers, but we only ever saw the first two seasons.
EDIT: Wait, that's TOTALLY not what I expected. Where is my Wave Motion Engine? _________________ We live in an amazing, amazing world, and it's wasted on the crappiest generation of spoiled idiots. -- Louis CK

You're thinking of Uchu Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato).
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge is a parody of reverse-harem bishounen anime directed by the same guy who did Excel Saga.
If you want, I've found a torrent for Uchu Senkan Yamato. Want me to put it up? |

I have most of the English-dub first two seasons. If the other three are available, either dubbed or subbed, I'm in. They weren't the last time I looked. _________________ We live in an amazing, amazing world, and it's wasted on the crappiest generation of spoiled idiots. -- Louis CK

Wikipedia says that there were only three seasons made. I've found torrents for all three, and they should be up in a couple of weeks, given good leeching times. |

Very most good excellent!
Someone recommended Monster a few months back and I haven't been able to find it. I'll start there.
Any good space operas on that list? _________________ "Doctor Wu, your knowledge of scientific biological transmogrification is only outmatched by your zest for kung-fu treachery!" - Black Dynamite

Monster is fantastic. It takes a good 5 or 6 episodes to get off the ground, but it actually manages to keep the awesome going all the way until the end - unheard of for a 74-episode series.
For space operas, I don't see many. There's Cowboy Bebop, and nothing will ever surpass Cowboy Bebop, but you've probably already seen that. If you wanna see an ancient classic, there's the 1977 series Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
I've got Planetes on DVD. I'll try and get that ripped and up eventually.
Actually, given how much everyone on this board seems to be into pirates, I'm surprised no one's made mention of Black Lagoon here. |

Actually, I used to almost despise anime. It took GITS:SAC to get me to accept the idiosyncrasies that repelled me in the past. That show's actually my favorite show ever in any genre. I dig Basilisk, Desert Punk, Code Geass, and Death Note. But it takes a really good anime to get me drawn in or I drop it quickly. _________________ "Doctor Wu, your knowledge of scientific biological transmogrification is only outmatched by your zest for kung-fu treachery!" - Black Dynamite

Watch Black Lagoon. It's about modern-day pirates operating out of Thailand, and a mild-mannered, normal, everyday Japanese businessman who ends up joining them. It's bad-ass. |

Technically, it is. Anime is simply a Japanese term for animation, and the term, as the Japanese use it, encompasses all forms and styles of animation with no consideration of origin. It is typically only the American usage that assumes it is exclusively a Japanese style of cartooning, and this perception is completely wrong. Manga, on the other hand, is exclusively the Japanese print comic style. But Starchaser's not a print comic. In any case, you do yourself a severe disservice by limiting your site to only Japanese origin animated features. But, to each his own. _________________ "The cheese stands alone." - Madhatte |

Manga is just the Japanese word for comic book, so really if you are going to say that anime is just a word meaning animation, manga is no different. _________________ "The problem with quotes on the Internet is the validity of them." -Abraham Lincoln |

No, Manga is specifically Japanese language print comics in the Japanese art style developed around the '40's. You might be thinking of komikku. _________________ "The cheese stands alone." - Madhatte |

Hm, you could be right. I just remember when studying Japanese in school that manga was just the general word we learned to refer to comics of any kind, but school-taught language isn't the most accurate sometimes. _________________ "The problem with quotes on the Internet is the validity of them." -Abraham Lincoln |

It's all semantics, at any rate. But for Smythe to have up a clearly American cartoon and then attempt to dismiss one of the great American animated classics on the basis of origin\style is a bit disingenuous, I say. _________________ "The cheese stands alone." - Madhatte |
