Well, I re-uploaded my avatar, and it hasn't melted, since. That seems to be the temporary solution, at any rate.

Yeah. I dislike having a gross avatar from Robocop under my name. Changed my avatar from its meltedness. :3 OH, and it's kinda funny 'cause I confused myself reading threads...'cause everyone's avatar was the same. >_>;

It has to do with the number 71. It's something a lot of us have history with. It's painful to discuss.

If you look around the board a bit, you might find your answer.

Many posters are from the Navy. Many of them knew each other on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, CVN-71.

Thus, at 71 posts, or at 710 posts...

I only set up the 71 surprise. I figured I didn't need to keep rubbing salt into the wound.

Actually when I posted that I didn't realize that the board actually did something (and still haven't seen it). I was just referring to people pointing the number out.

Hatte should be at 7100 before long, maybe you can give him a special surprise.

I'm just glad my numbers are different from your numbers. That way I don't have to share the agony. ; )

Uh, I don't know enough about creating web pages to know if this would help, but it's supposed to help preload images.
Quote:
A Simple CSS Image preloading technique
Saturday, April 22, 2006

So you need to pre-load images, but don't want to deal with javascript or complicated workarounds. What do you do? The solution is simple. All we need to do is designate a CSS style with multiple background-images. As your browser reads the style, it will load each image you designate in succession, thus pre-loading your images. Below is an example of the CSS:

#preloadedImages {
width: 0px;
height: 0px;
display: inline;
background-image: url(path/to/image1.png);
background-image: url(path/to/image2.png);
background-image: url(path/to/image3.png);
background-image: url(path/to/image4.png);
background-image: url();
}

The next step is to load this div in your page. This is accomplished by inserting
once in the body of the page you are preloading these images. Now you can reference them anywhere on your page (rollovers, alternate image states, etc.), and the image will load instantly from cache.

That's cool. The BEB site doesn't use mouseovers etc., but it's still a cool trick to know.

THe maps do, and they preload all of the stuff so the switching is instant when you click on a toggle switch.
