Four more days.

It seems like a long time since we got to have a next generation (I don't really count the Wii U), and I'm pretty excited. I just hope it doesn't cost quite as much as the PS3 did at launch.

I refuse to believe anything until I see it with my own eyes. For all we know, the Feb 20 event could just be them unveiling the actual release date. Sony is crap like that. If it is the actual launch, I will be excited at that time.

No of course it isn't being launched on Wednesday. I just meant the unveiling. As of right now there is no such thing as a PS4/Orbis.

I doubt we will even get a release date.

Yeah, but every site on the 'net is speculating about it being the launch and whatnot, with no evidence behind it whatsoever. It's aggravating.

Wait, someone on the internet started unfounded rumors? Say it isn't so!

Also, Abraham Lincoln once said you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet.

I read that on Wikipedia, so I know it has to be accurate.

Uh...the point is that I'm aggravated about it, not that I believe it. Very observant, guys.

I think we were responding to each other more than to your initial comment.

Honestly, I saw that, Crush. I just like to quote Abraham Lincoln, when I have the chance. Sorry for the hijack.

On topic, though, I can't get excited about this any more. I got a killer PC, and thus far the only game I can't get on it that I want is Journey, which could run on this, if PS would let it out of their sandbox. I would have to say that thatgamecompany makes awesome art, and I am sad that I can't see it as I don't have a PS3 any more, but I'm also not willing to shell out more than $300 for the 2-3 PS exclusive art pieces. I'll just look for Steam art that fills the same nich. (For example, Thomas Was Alone is excellent, in a strange sort of way. It is narrative art, though, and not visual/narrative as with Journey.)

http://games.slashdot.org/story/13/02/16/0416218/sony-exercising-its-acquisition-of-gaikai-plans-to-stream-games-to-ps4

It appears that Sony will most likely be using the service to stream PS3 and indie games to the console, as the current technology only supports 720p, not high enough quality for blockbuster games. Constantly streaming interactive graphics, even if only at 720p, will still require a fast internet connection. Services like OnLive have struggled in the past due to the large amount of bandwidth they require, and many consumers complained of laggy connections and horrendous graphics.

Yeah I'm guessing that is their solution to backwards capability. It probably just isn't feasible to make the machine handle PS2 and PS3 games from a cost perspective. Price was the reason it took over five years for the PS3 to overtake the 360 in global sales, and even then by the slightest margin. Both the PS1 and PS2 had absolutely destroyed their closet competition by a factor of 5 to 1.

There will be media for PS4 games but the PS4 itself will not play PS3/2/1 media. You will have to download/stream PS3/2/1 games.

Should be noted all that is just speculation at this pointless, but if I had to guess I would say that's right. Maybe it could easily handle PS1 games, but just doing that almost seems pointless.

I read the headlines but was confused. Are the PS4 games actual discs? It talked about *streaming the game so there is no boot time or loading.
