I caved, what can I say, I didn't feel like standing RO any more and wanted to be RT qualified before I got out.

Yeah, I can back you up on that. I was going to do ESWS until they told me I HAD to do it. Then I refused to on general principle.

So I have to share this conversation that happened today in the RT office.

"What you say?"

the ONLY plus to being RT was standing watch from the RIM Room. Oh the hours spent playing Civ3. Hit pause, review logs, unpause. I was a sleazy RT. I could care less what happened to the plant as long as the Zulu were granting "Rights of Passage".

I think he meant the other RT. Think Zimmy.

Thats what I figured about Immyls post. But before that, people were talking about RT watch. So it fit. Civ3 is $10 at walmart Ive been serioulsly tempted to pick it up. But then again Civ4 looks pretty sweet. FTN!

Oh.

I just picked Civ III up again. It was $20 for the complete edition with both expansions at Best Buy. I don't have a machine that can run Civ IV. You need way more than the minimum specs or it's painfully slow. And yeah, I played a lot of Civ III on watch.

Alright, now's as good a time as any to mention this:

We've got two pages before this auto-archives.

Glistam, I'm sure this is just the thread you had in mind when you installed that feature, but--unlike the catch-all thread--this is an ongoing discussion, and like it or not, it is integral to the board; I therefore encourage you to allow it to continue uninterrupted. Sure, we could start a continuation thread, but it wouldn't be the same.

Yes, please. For the reasons Ashlad cited, and because I take great pleasure in telling people how many pages of pain & misery have collected.

Plus, the auto-archive of the catch-all thread sort of killed it. We now have 3 catch-alls in its place. It's not a bad arrangement but it's certainly not a continuation of what was. My poor naming of the new one didn't help, I'm sure, but that's part of the point. There really isn't a better name for this thread than the one it has.

There's sometimes week(s) between posts. It's usually restarted with some random piece of arising information that only has to do with disliking the Navy and not necessarily previous posts. Sometimes they're new stories to add or reminiscence about. Would being able to say that there's a second thread because the old on got too big not be more pleasurable? Is the 71 page limit not a tradition inspired by the H&D to remind us where we came from?

On a side note, there are plenty of people here who have been out quite a while. It's okay to tell your stories and why be so adamant about being angry, that time is long gone for you. Also realize that there's more than one job and situation in the Navy. While I can say for certain that not all of them are all good points, there are many situations that aren't as bad as being a nuke. Hell, how many people have watched other people dig their own grave and bury themselves in something worse, making it their own fault? I know I've done it a time or two or seven.

I've been in the Navy twice and have gotten out twice(as of today my second contract is up), both in different situations. I can honestly tell you that nukes miss out on a lot of the good parts of the job. It actually feels a little sad to leave when you aren't escaping a soul sucking monster. I feel glad for Haven. He's about to get thrown into a whole different situation where there's a really good chance that everything is going to turn around for him and become much easier, watch.

All points above are valid. I don't have a strong feeling one way or another, except to say that hate and discontent are the cause, theme, and sustenance of this thread. That said, if auto-archiving at 71 pages reminds us of our hate and discontent, it may be a vessel of good rather than evil. I'm good with whatever happens, though. As long as there's still a place to vent as neccessary I have nothing to complain about.

I agree. This a great place to vent and share experiences. I like this thread. Its makes look back and laugh at some of the stupidity that went on. And it also brings back some great memories of the comadery ballbusting that used to go on. I have met some of the best humans in the Navy and I am glad to have had that experience.

Something like "More Stories of Misery and Pain from the Navy"?

Are you sure you don't want to needlessly complicate it?
